I will leave you with my favorite quote from Sarah J. So, look to the stars and wish all you want, but when you are done with your aimless stargazing, pull that one thought to the forefront of you mind as you take a step forward and make your own future. No longer will that singular thought plague you on every breathtakingly starry night, for you will be at peace with the knowledge that you tried, even if it all came to nothing. You will have learned how to work hard and be creative, and you will be a better, happier person because of it. Yet, if your dream is a good dream -the right dream- then I can promise you that it will all be worth it because even if you never attain your dream, your life will be improved exponentially by the journey. You will be forced to make sacrifices and give up parts of your life that you used to think you couldn’t live without. You will be tested and tempted to give up countless times. If we are to make our own dreams come true, then we must reach farther, run faster, think smarter, move more carefully, and be more diligent in every area of life because with every step you take towards that future, it will get harder. You see, dreams are wild animals: anytime a human approaches it, the animal darts off just before it can be touched. We must be responsible for our own success, instead of just waiting around for it to happen to us.īe that as it may, it won’t be easy. All we have to do is take action, a single step forward. The truth of the matter is, most of these dreams, despite the fact that they live in the deepest corner of our mind in a place that no other human has seen, are in fact attainable. What does this get us? Absolutely nothing. We stare up at the sky, waiting for the next shooting star in hopes that this star might grant us our wish. However, that hope often comes attached at the hip with the doubt that the dream could never come true. We imagine what life would be like if only that one hope came to fruition. We all have that one thought that has buried itself in the backs of our minds for most of our life. This quote is telling us that if we simply wish upon a falling star, then the universe will makes our dreams come true, and while there’s something to be said for prayer and petition, there’s absolutely nothing to be said for sitting on our tails and turning it all over to “the stars.” That is not the way to make our dreams come true. Somehow, as eloquent and aesthetic as this quote is, it seems all wrong. The second part of the toast is to the stars themselves that supposedly answer these aspirations. These people are those that take their hope and turn it over to the universe. The first being “the people who look at the stars and wish,” or -in other words- people that are dreamers, visionaries, that wish upon stars. How do scientists use the Doppler effect to find planets around a star (Planets pull on their stars as they orbit, thus moving the star. The two characters are toasting two separate things. Now, this quote definitely seems beautiful and inspiring, but what does it really mean? It’s obvious that there is some sort of lesson we are meant to learn from it, but what? To understand, we must break it down. “To the stars who listen- and the dreams that are answered.”’ ‘“To the people who look at the stars and wish, Rhys.” Rhys clinked his glass against mine. In her book, A Court of Mist and Fury, you can find one of the most abstractly beautiful quotes: ![]()
